Weather Advisory

Typical winter conditions with mild temperatures in the mid-70s°F (24°C). No tropical weather systems are currently affecting the region.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially ended November 30. The next hurricane season begins June 1, 2025.

Health Advisory

Status: Normal

No significant health advisories are in effect. Healthcare facilities in Nassau and Freeport meet international standards.

Recommendations:

  • Ensure routine vaccinations are up to date
  • Drink bottled or filtered water on outer islands
  • Use insect repellent to prevent mosquito-borne illness
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended

COVID-19: No testing or vaccination requirements for entry. Healthcare facilities are operating normally.

Safety Advisory

Status: Normal

The Bahamas is generally safe for tourists, though standard precautions apply, particularly in urban areas.

Nassau/Paradise Island:

  • Avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas, especially "Over-the-Hill" neighborhoods south of downtown
  • Keep valuables secure at beaches; petty theft occurs
  • Use official taxis (yellow plates) or ride-sharing services

Outer Islands:

  • Crime rates are very low on Family Islands
  • Main concerns are water safety and sun exposure

Water Safety:

  • Strong currents exist at some beaches
  • Always snorkel with a buddy
  • Be cautious around marine life (sea urchins, jellyfish seasonally)

US State Department Advisory

The US State Department currently rates the Bahamas at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution due to crime. This is the same level as most Caribbean destinations.

Areas of specific concern include certain neighborhoods in Nassau (south of Shirley Street) and parts of Freeport.
